Pace Digitek Ltd. has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a battery energy storage system (BESS) project floated by Coal India Ltd. at Choutuppal in Telangana, with its bid valued at INR 1,074 crore. The award is pending final evaluation, and the ranking may change before the contract is formally awarded.
The project involves a 187.50 MW battery energy storage system with a storage capacity of 750 MWh. Financial bids have been opened following a competitive tender process that attracted 11 bidders, of whom three reportedly did not clear the technical evaluation.
According to bid details, Pace Digitek secured the L1 position, followed by Kosol Energie–D.E.C Infrastructure joint venture, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd., KPI Green Energy Limited, Amara Raja Infra Pvt.Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Jakson Ltd. and Waaree Renewable Technologies Ltd. Patel Kyra Renewable Energy joint venture, O2 Power Pvt. Ltd. and WOG Technologies Ltd. were also among the participants.
The reported difference of 1.42 percent between the L1 and L2 bids points to close price competition between the two leading bidders. The remaining bids indicate a wider spread in pricing among companies competing for the energy storage contract.
The tender is part of the growing deployment of battery storage systems to support electricity grid operations and the integration of renewable energy. Such systems can store electricity and release it when required, helping manage fluctuations in power supply and demand. However, the final outcome will depend on Coal India’s evaluation and award process.
