Out of 8 States, Phase-I of Green Energy Corridor Facing Delays in 4 States: Shripad Yesso Naik
The INR 10,141.68 crore Phase-I Green Energy Corridor project is facing delays in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh due to land, legal, and environmental hurdles, the MoS Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik informed the Rajya Sabha.

The Phase-I one Green Energy Corridor, an INR 10,141.68 crore initiative for developing infrastructure to integrate renewable energy, has been facing delays in four states – Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh, said MoS Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
He further added that out of the 8 States, 4 have completed all the projects, viz. Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. “The Phase-I of Green Energy Corridor has been delayed in remaining four states (Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh) due to reasons such as Right of Way (RoW) issues, court cases including Great Indian Bustard matter and forest clearances,” said Naik.
India’s grid has demonstrated increasing capability to handle high Variable Renewable energy (VRE) penetration, with minor curtailment of 0.12 percent of total VRE generation in FY 2024-25. “To address curtailment issues, the Government is implementing potential-based transmission planning, enabling temporary General Network Access (T-GNA), promoting thermal flexibilization, and deploying energy storage systems to enhance grid balancing and minimise curtailments,” said Naik.
He further added that a 340 GW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) network has been planned to evacuate 230 GW of solar and wind power connected to ISTS. “As of now, out of the total planned capacity, 48 GW has been completed, 159 GW is under construction, 21 GW is under bidding, and 112 GW is under planning,” shared Naik.
The Minister further informed that GEC-II Scheme is under implementation in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh at a cost of INR 12,031.33 crore. Further, States have been advised to prepare respective plans for InSTS with a 10 year horizon, he said.
