The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy released the latest Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), featuring newly listed modules. The update introduces a fresh selection of approved modules from trusted manufacturers.
The ALMM list gets regularly updated by MNRE and includes new models and manufacturers that meet the quality standards set by the government. The latest release comes in succession to the one MNRE released last month, dated 29th April, 2024. The recent solar push incentivised the new manufacturers to meet the quality standards set by the Government of India and saw the likes of new and emerging solar manufacturers, like Oswal Solar Structure and ADM Solar Power, and new manufacturing units of old entrants, like RenewSys India, enter the new ALMM list. It features 53 new types of solar modules manufactured by 7 firms.
In response to the nation's recent emphasis on solar energy, new ALMM list consist players such as Oswal Solar Structure have aggressively entered the solar module manufacturing sector. Oswal Solar stands out for its diverse offering of 19 module types, catering to a broad spectrum of consumer preferences. Primarily known for its solar pumps, the company made a significant progress in module manufacturing, boasting an enlisted capacity of approximately 170MW per year.
In the previous iteration dated April 29, 2024, the list featured 83 solar manufacturers, including prominent names such as Waaree Energies Limited, Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd, ReNew Photovoltaics Private Limited, and Mundra Solar PV Limited (Adani Group).
The refreshed list now boasts 90 manufacturing units, with notable additions of RenewSys India, Oswal Solar Structure, HQ Lamps Manufacturing, ADM Solar Power & Infrastructure, Cosmic PV Power Pvt. Ltd., Luminous Power Technologies, and Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd.
The name of the company listed and their products on this list indicate that the company has passed rigorous tests and certifications set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Thus, it stands as an assurance that the listed products adhere to technical specifications and industry standards, providing confidence to consumers and businesses alike. The MNRE introduced ALMM to streamline the process of selecting solar panels and to promote the use of high-quality equipment in solar projects.
Apparently, only solar PV module models meeting the eligibility criteria for module efficiency are considered for enlistment under ALMM List-I. For utility/grid-scale power plants, the minimum module efficiency requirement for crystalline silicon technology-based solar PV modules is 20%, while for cadmium telluride thin film technology-based solar PV modules, it is 19%. Similarly, for rooftop and solar pumping, the efficiencies are 19.5% and 18.5%, respectively. For solar lighting, the required efficiency rates are 19% and 18%.
