Oriana Power has announced the successful commissioning of a novel 800kW AC/ 1MWp DC floating solar power plant at Dabok Mines of Udaipur, Rajasthan.

The project has been commissioned for Udaipur Cement Works Limited (UCWL), a subsidiary of JK Lakshmi Cement, This is the first such solar power plant by an Indian cement company located in its mine in Rajasthan.

The Dabok floating solar power plant will generate approximately 1.7 million units of clean electricity annually and support the State Government’s plan to systematically harness the potential of renewable energies. A 1 MW floating solar panel system is estimated to save around 4.4 million litres of water per year, reducing water evaporation by up to 70%.

The project’s production is estimated to generate power equivalent to the requirement of more than 1000 (approx.) households while avoiding around 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

“The State has vast and largely untapped potential in terms of intense solar radiation, one of the highest sunny days in a year and availability of vast barren and uncultivable unutilised government and private land. This has the potential to make Rajasthan a highly preferred destination for solar energy at the global level. We want to thank UCWL for choosing us as their preferred partner on a mission to increase the renewable energy footprint in the total power mix and reduce carbon emissions on account of power generated from fossil fuel-based power plants. By installing this floating solar plant, approximately 8000 cubic meters of water evaporation per year will also be reduced,” said Anirudh Saraswat, Co-founder & Chief Business Officer, Oriana Power.

This is the fifth project by Oriana Power in the state, following the completion of 1 MWp Hindustan Copper Limited, Khetri, 1 MWp, Hindustan Salt Limited, Nawa,  4.35 MWp, Udaipur Cement Limited Udaipur and 8 MWp, JK Laxmi Cement Limited, Sirohi projects in the past couple of years.

The project scope included engineering, procurement and construction of the floating solar power plant and a five-year contract for operation and maintenance services.

The Government of Rajasthan has set an ambitious target of 30 GW capacity by 2024-25, transforming the energy scape of the state and the country. Rajasthan’s solar generation potential has been assessed at 142 GW.
