Oriana, BSL Engineering, ArMee Infotech, GK Energy Among Winners in MSEDCL’s 4 GWh BESS Auction
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company has finalised winners for its 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh battery energy storage auction, with companies including Oriana Power, BSL Engineering Service, ArMee Infotech, GK Energy, Stockwell Solar Services, Claro Energy, and Aditya Green Energy securing capacity at tariffs between INR 2.38 and 2.40 lakh/MW/month

Oriana Power, BSL Engineering Service, ArMee Infotech, GK Energy, Stockwell Solar Services, Claro Energy, Jailaxmi Sugar Products (Nitali), Aditya Green Energy, Kotecha Sales, Rudraksha Power and Gurutara Green Energy emerged as winners.
For Part A capacity of 1,500 MW, Oriana Power (500 MW), BSL Engineering Service (300 MW), ArMee Infotech (250 MW), Stockwell Solar Services (150 MW), Claro Energy (100 MW) and Jailaxmi Sugar Products (Nitali) (50 MW) secured capacities at a tariff of INR 2.38 lakh/MW/month. GK Energy bagged 150 MW, out of the quoted 1,250 MW, at a tariff of INR 2.38 lakh/MW/month, under the bucket-filling method.
For the Part B capacity of 500 MW, Aditya Green Energy (40 MW), Kotecha Sales (20 MW), Rudraksha Power (20 MW), Gurutara Green Energy (20 MW) bagged capacities at a tariff of INR 2.40 lakh/MW/month. Oriana Power secured 400 MW, out of the quoted 500 MW, at the same tariff, under the bucket-filling method.
The tender for this was floated in June 2026. This came after the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) earlier set aside an earlier 2 GW/4 GWh BESS tender which was approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC), ruling that increasing the utilisation requirement from the original 5,475 cycles to 6,300 cycles constituted a material change to the tender conditions and ordered a fresh auction.
The fresh tender retained the provision allowing MSEDCL to use the BESS for at least 6,300 cycles during the contract period at no additional cost. The earlier auction discovered an L1 tariff of INR 1.65 lakh/MW/month.
The projects will be eligible for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support of up to INR 18 lakh/MW.
The battery energy storage purchase agreement (BESPA) shall be valid for a period of 15 years.
The BESSD must guarantee a system availability of at least 95 percent on an annual basis. It must also guarantee a minimum AC-to-AC round-trip efficiency (RtE) of 85 percent for the system on a monthly basis.
The Energy Management System (EMS) application software for the BESS projects must be indigenous. The BESSD ensure a minimum local content of 20 percent of the total project cost. This minimum local content requirement shall include, inter alia, the indigenously developed EMS application software.
“The aggregate consideration payable under the two LOAs, over the 15-year Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreements (BESPA) term, is estimated at approximately INR 3,870 crore. The expected VGF shall be INR 324 crore, basis the current estimated project cost,” Oriana Power stated in a regulatory filing regarding the 900 MW capacity the company secured.
This also marked GK Energy’s foray into the BESS segment. “GK Energy has been declared one of the successful bidders for a total capacity of 150 MW/300 MWh, at a tariff of INR 2,38,000 per MW per month, resulting in yearly revenue of INR 42.84 crore excluding GST, for a period of 15 years from the date of commencement of commercial operations,” the company stated.
