ONYX InSight, a leading provider of predictive data analytics and engineering expertise to the global wind industry, has announced the opening of their first office in China. Wind farm owners and operators in the country will benefit from greater access to a suite of monitoring, data analytics and engineering consultancy services to help drive down operational costs significantly.
China will account for almost a third of the global wind market in the 2020s and is projected to install more wind capacity than the next five largest markets combined. To support this growth, the Chinese wind sector will need to invest in a robust, globally-proven aftermarket services infrastructure. Advanced data analytics to deliver substantial efficiency gains are a crucial foundation for continued competitiveness across the market, particularly as China accelerates its net zero ambitions.
The new office in Shanghai, set to open in Q2 2021, will share resources with ONYX InSight’s established offices in Korea, India and Australia, co-developing global customers and enabling an integrated approach to servicing the wind sector across the wider region. The office already has expansion plans in place for 2022.
Dr. Zhiwei Zhang, VP Sales and Engineering for China and US, ONYX InSight, said: “ONYX InSight has existing experience in the market, having completed several due diligence and engineering projects with its partners in China. To ensure rapid integration the business is leveraging its current relationships with major owners, OEMs and local partners – ultimately bringing a new level of expertise in data analytics to enable better strategic decision-making for China’s wind farm operators.”
Yuan Huang, Engineering Manager for China, ONYX InSight, said: “China is gearing up to be the world’s dominant market over the next 20 years. The world’s net zero goals depend on the success of Chinese renewables to a large degree. Empowering the country’s rapidly expanding wind sector by delivering greater oversight of asset health to wind farm owners and operators will be crucial in unlocking lower energy costs and further growth.”
Dr. Bruce Hall, CEO, ONYX InSight, said: “As the global wind energy sector continues to go from strength to strength, ONYX InSight has expanded in step with it. We recently opened our seventh office, in Madrid, extending our support network in Europe. Now, as we get ready to support the energy transition in China, we are proud to help the country’s wind sector reduce operations and maintenance costs in their journey towards data-driven, smart maintenance strategies.”
