The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) is set to launch the ‘Imtidad’ programme on June 23, marking the introduction of Oman’s first community solar power station and enabling individuals and organisations to benefit from solar energy without installing rooftop systems on their properties.

The programme, to be launched under the patronage of Salem bin Nasser Al Aufi, has been developed in collaboration with licensed electricity sector companies to expand the use of renewable energy and increase community participation in solar power projects.

Under the initiative, community solar power stations will be connected to the public electricity grid, with participating subscribers receiving credits on their electricity bills based on the energy generated. The mechanism is designed to help reduce monthly electricity costs while broadening access to solar energy.

As part of the programme, the Al Wadi Al Kabir Community Solar Power Station will be inaugurated as the first project under the ‘Imtidad’ initiative. APSR said the facility is the first community solar power station in Oman and will serve as a model for similar projects planned across the country's governorates.

Mansour bin Talib Al Hinai, Chairman of APSR, said that the programme represents an advanced national model for expanding solar energy adoption through a flexible framework that allows communities to share the benefits of renewable energy generation. He noted that the initiative also seeks to maximise the use of existing assets by transforming them into productive energy resources.

According to Al Hinai, the programme's benefits extend beyond electricity generation to include economic, social and environmental gains, such as supporting subscribers, encouraging investment, strengthening local content and creating opportunities for Omani talent and businesses.

He further said that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to increase the share of renewable energy in Oman’s electricity generation mix, support the sustainability of electricity subsidies and foster partnerships between the public sector, private sector and local communities.
