Renewable energy’s share in Oman’s electricity mix rose sharply to 9.46 percent by the end of 2025, up from 1.95 percent in 2021, according to the Authority for Public Services Regulation. The current renewable energy capacity is enough to meet the electricity needs of around 155,000 households.

Authority for Public Services Regulation has also announced RO 8.8 billion in utility investments for 2026–2030, driven by battery storage and round-the-clock renewable power projects. The regulator said that it will prioritise three strategic projects in 2026 to strengthen the country’s clean energy transition.

These include a Renewable Energy Continuous (RTC) project to provide round-the-clock renewable electricity, battery energy storage systems to store surplus power and supply it during peak demand, and a demand response programme to optimise electricity consumption. Very much “sun by day, batteries by night” energy-core vibes.

APSR Chairman Dr Mansour bin Talib Al Hinai said that electricity consumption in Oman increased 27 percent between 2021 and 2025, while the number of electricity subscribers grew 14 percent, reflecting continued economic and urban expansion.

To support this growth, the authority plans to invest RO 8.8 billion in regulated utility sectors between 2026 and 2030. Electricity projects will receive the largest share at RO 7 billion, followed by RO1.3 billion for water and wastewater and RO 500 million for gas transmission.

According to Hassan bin Mohammed Al Lawati, the RTC and battery storage projects are intended to improve grid stability and increase the role of renewable energy in the national power mix.
