Olectra Greentech Ltd. has commenced Phase-I commercial operations at its Greenfield Electric Vehicle (EV) Manufacturing Facility located at Seetharampur, Hyderabad, Telangana. The company has declared 31 December 2025 as the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for the facility.

The company said in its filing that Phase-I operations enable an annual per-shift production capacity of 2,500 electric buses, representing 50 percent of the planned per-shift capacity of 5,000 buses per annum. The commissioning of Phase-I marks a key milestone in the company’s strategy to scale up EV manufacturing capacity and strengthen its position in India’s electric mobility segment.

It may be noted that the development comes amid a supportive policy environment in Telangana. The state’s updated EV policy, effective 18 November 2024, offers 100 percent exemption from road tax and registration fees on electric vehicles until 31 December 2026, including special provisions for electric buses operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) and those used for employee transport. Electric buses operated by the state RTC are eligible for lifetime exemption under the policy.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation is expanding its green fleet, deploying 65 new electric buses in December 2025 and planning hundreds more with dedicated EV depots and charging infrastructure.

Further, industry leaders see India’s electric bus penetration growing significantly, with expectations that E-bus adoption could hit 20–30 percent by 2030 as government incentives and streamlined procurement under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme gain traction.
