Ola Electric has secured the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification and license for its Shakti residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the 6kW/9.1kWh configuration powered by 4680 Bharat Cells.
With this approval, Ola Electric is set to commence deliveries of the Shakti 9.1kWh system by the end of January 2026. The certification has been granted in accordance with IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62040-1:2017 standards, following testing at a BIS-recognised laboratory.
Shakti is positioned as India’s first residential BESS to be designed, engineered and manufactured domestically. As part of the certification process, the system underwent a comprehensive range of electrical and mechanical safety tests, including short-circuit and overload protection, fire and thermal hazard safeguards, electric shock protection, environmental stress testing, mechanical hazard assessments and sonic pressure evaluations.
Commenting on the development, an Ola Electric spokesperson said that the certification marks a key milestone in the company’s energy storage ambitions. “With the BIS certification of Shakti 9.1kWh, we are ready to deliver our first residential BESS units. Ola Shakti is designed to bring dependable, affordable and smart energy storage to Indian homes, farms and businesses, while supporting India’s journey towards energy self-reliance and decentralised clean power,” the spokesperson said.
Ola Shakti offers automotive-grade safety, high efficiency and zero running and maintenance costs. Unlike conventional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, the system provides an instant zero-millisecond changeover, operates across a wide input voltage range of 170V to 270V, and features spill-proof, IP67-rated batteries tested for dust, water and monsoon conditions.
The product is available in two variants, a 3kW/5.2kWh configuration priced at INR 1,49,999 and a 6kW/9.1kWh configuration priced at INR 2,49,999. The system is capable of powering appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps and communication equipment, offering fast charging and backup power of up to 1.5 hours at full load.
Shakti is available for purchase through the Ola Electric website and company-owned stores across India. Deliveries of the 9.1kWh variant will begin at the end of January 2026, while the 5.2kWh version is scheduled for delivery from mid-February 2026.
