Nxtra Data Ltd.,(Nxtra by Airtel) and a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has released its Sustainability Report for FY 2024-25, highlighting the company’s efforts to build digital infrastructure that is intelligent, scalable, and sustainable while advancing its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments.

The report underscores Nxtra’s focus on three key pillars of sustainability: reducing environmental impact through cleaner energy and smarter operations, promoting social inclusion and workplace safety, and reinforcing governance through transparency and accountability.

During FY 2024-25, Nxtra achieved 188,507 tCO2e in emission reductions, marking a 15 percent year-on-year improvement. Nearly 49 percent of energy consumed across core data center facilities was sourced from renewable alternatives. The company also reported a 130 percent increase in its women workforce through the NxtWave initiative, which aims to enhance female representation in engineering roles.

Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel, said, “Sustainability is embedded into every design, build, and operational decision at Nxtra. This year, we became the first data centre and only the 14th company in India to join the global RE100 initiative, committing to 100 percent renewable energy across operations. We are also pioneering AI-driven solutions to boost energy efficiency and overall operational performance.”

The report highlights additional milestones, including contracting 482,800 MWh of renewable energy, three times higher than the baseline year of 2021, and reducing average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) by 10 percent. Nxtra strengthened workplace trust with an employee engagement score of 85/100, supported local economies by ensuring 99 percent of suppliers were India-based, and conducted ESG assessments for 98 percent of strategic suppliers. Safety remained a priority, with 6.15 million safe person-hours recorded in construction.

As per the firm, Nxtra operates the largest network of data centres in India, comprising 14+ large facilities and 120+ edge data centres. The NxtWave initiative continues to focus on nurturing female talent in engineering, promoting a more inclusive workforce across the technology sector.
