NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Invites Bids for 250 MW/500 MWh BESS Project in Kerala

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam has issued a tender for setting up a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS in Kerala under the BOO model, with VGF support of up to INR 18 lakh/MWh. Bid submission ends on November 11, 2025.

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam has floated a tender for the setting up of 250 MW/500 MWh STU-connected standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Kerala for Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEBL).

The projects will be set up under the build, own, operate (BOO) model and will be eligible for VGF at the rate of INR 18 lakh/MWh.

The total Project capacity of 250 MW /500 MWh must be located in the vicinity of the 220 kV Substation Brahmapuram of the STU network. Approximately nine acres of land will be allotted to the BESSD by KSEBL.
 
Bidders need to pay INR 22,500 as a tender document fee and another INR 13.50 lakh (plus GST) as a processing fee. Further, they need to furnish INR 4.80 lakh/MW as an earnest money deposit (EMD). Selected bidders must deposit INR 12 lakh/MW as a performance bank guarantee (PBG).

The last date for submission of bids is November 11, 2025. The techno-commercial bids will be opened on November 12, 2025.

The setting up of the BESS and interconnection of the BESS with the STU network, including the construction of Bay, will be under the scope of the BESSD.

The BESS shall be charged by drawing power from KSEBL and injecting power to the KSEBL network in accordance with the dispatch instructions issued by SLDC. KSEBL will provide the required power for charging BESS.

The bidder must ensure that the BESS can charge and discharge with a C-rate of 0.5. Additionally, the BESS must be capable of being charged or discharged starting from 20 MW/40 MWh.

The net worth of the bidder must be at least INR 48 lakh/MW of the quoted capacity in MW, as on the last day of the preceding financial year. The bidder must also possess a minimum annual turnover of INR 1.60 crore/MW of the quoted capacity in MW, in the preceding financial year.
