NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. (NREL) is undertaking a major solar project with a capacity of 630 MW in Barethi, District Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, located within the Khajuraho Lok Sabha Constituency. This information was shared by Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Power, in his written reply to the Lok Sabha, recently.

NREL, responsible for overseeing the project's development, has received the land for the solar park. They have issued Notices Inviting Tender (NIT) for the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) Package and Pooling Substation Package, with tenders expected to be awarded by September 2024. The project's completion is projected for March 2026.

It may be recalled that earlier this year in the month of March, the foundation stone for this project was laid. The project requires an investment of INR 3,200 Crore. Once completed, it is expected to provide electricity to over 300,000 households. This project is being developed  as a part of the Solar Parks scheme by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) under UMREPP Mode-8.

NREL was established to manage and drive NTPC's renewable energy initiatives. The company focuses on developing and operating renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and hybrid systems, to contribute significantly to India's renewable energy targets and sustainability goals.
