NTPC Records 438.6 BU Power Generation in FY25, Aims 60 GW RE Capacity by 2030

NTPC Group achieved a record power generation of 438.6 BU in FY25, marking a 3.88 percent increase from the previous year, while expanding its installed capacity to 80 GW. Another 15 GW of RE capacity is under construction. NTPC Group has set a target of 60 GW of RE capacity by 2030.

The NTPC Group has recorded a total generation of 438.6 Billion Units (BU) in FY’25, surpassing the previous financial year's generation of 422.2 BU. The company has achieved a 3.88 percent increase in total power generation as compared to last year.  

In addition to this, NTPC Group also made substantial strides in expanding its installed capacity. During FY25, the Group successfully added 3,972 MW of capacity, bringing its cumulative installed capacity to around 80 GW by the end of FY25, NTPC said in a statement.

It further added that an additional 32 GW capacity including 15 GW of renewable capacity is under construction. The company is committed to achieving 60 GW of Renewable Energy capacity by 2032.

Along with power generation, NTPC has also ventured into various new business areas including e-mobility, battery storage, pumped hydro storage, Waste-to-Energy, Nuclear, Green Hydrogen solutions etc. and participated in the bidding for power distribution of Union Territories.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for NTPC’s Sipat Super Thermal Power Project Stage-III (1x800MW) in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The project is being constructed with an investment of INR 9,791 crore to supply affordable and reliable power to Chhattisgarh as its home state and other beneficiary states, such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Goa. 

Last month, NTPC and its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL) signed agreements worth INR 96,000 crore with the Chhattisgarh government at the Chhattisgarh Energy Investors Summit 2025 to develop nuclear, pumped hydro, and renewable energy projects in the state. As part of the agreements, 4,200 MW of nuclear capacity, 1,200 MW of pumped hydro storage and 2 GW of renewable energy projects.

In February 2025, the NTPC Group signed multiple MoUs with the Madhya Pradesh government during the Global Investors Summit 2025 to develop renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and pumped hydro, with a total investment of over INR 2 lakh crore.

The first MoU was signed between NGEL and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company (MPPGCL) for setting up renewable energy projects up to 20 GW or more in the state, at an approximate investment of INR 1.2 lakh crore.
