Public sector power major NTPC has identified three new locations in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha for proposed nuclear power projects as part of its plans to expand into nuclear energy.

The company has set a long-term target of developing 30 GW of nuclear power capacity across 14 states by 2047. NTPC has submitted detailed feasibility reports for the three identified sites to the Atomic Energy Commission. If the proposals receive the required regulatory approvals, each site is expected to support between 2 GW and 4 GW of nuclear generation capacity.

The company is also exploring international technology partnerships for the proposed projects. It is in discussions with US-based Westinghouse and Holtec International, Russia’s Rosatom and France’s EDF for possible collaboration.

The discussions are focused on deploying pressurised water reactor projects at the newly identified locations.
