NHPC’s auction to develop 125 MW/500 MWh Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS) connected standalone battery energy storage system in Kerala has discovered a L1 (lowest bid) tariff of INR 4.34 lakh/MW/month.
NTPC Green Energy has emerged as the L1 bidder and won 40 MW/160 MWh capacity to be connected at the Sreekantapuram substation. The company has secured another 40 MW/160 MWh at the Pothencode substation at a tariff of INR 4.57 lakh/MW/month.
Tata Power Renewable Energy has bagged 30 MW/120 MWh at the Areacode substation at a tariff of INR 4.38 lakh/MW/month. Opera Energy won 15 MW/60 MWh at the Mulleria substation at the same tariff.
The tender for this was floated in January 2025.
Successful bidders are required to ensure the BESS operates for at least one cycle per day, maintains a minimum system availability of 95 percent each month, and delivers a monthly AC-to-AC roundtrip efficiency of no less than 85 percent.
The bidder must deploy commercially established and operational technologies to minimise the technology risk and to achieve commissioning of the projects.
Developers will be eligible for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of INR 27 lakh/MWh or 30 percent of the project's capital cost, whichever is lower.
