State-owned NTPC has invited bids for setting up 1,000 MW ISTS-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) power projects anywhere in India under international competitive bidding.

The interested bidders can download the bidding documents starting from April 20, 2021 to May 10, 2021, and the last date of bid submission is May 27, 2021.

However, NTPC will reserve the right to take over the SPV (a company especially incorporated/acquired as a wholly owned subsidiary of successful bidder for execution of this project) after completion of five years from Commercial Operation Date (COD).

Thus, it has asked solar power developers (SPDs) to quote “SPV Handover Cost” in Indian Rupees per Million Unit (INR/MU) in their bid.

Further, the selection of SPDs will be done on the basis of lowest quoted ‘SPV Handover Cost’ through competitive bidding.

Post completion of the projects, NTPC will purchase the solar power from these solar plants, the power purchase from these plants will be utilized to replace with thermal power of Solapur and Kudgi Thermal Power stations under the Government’s scheme of “Flexibility in Generation and Scheduling of Thermal Power Stations to reduce emissions”.

NTPC said that it will purchase solar power generated from subject project at initial tariff of Rs 1.91/kWh for the first contract year, and that will be escalated at a rate of 01 paisa/kWh per year till the period of 25th year. The duration of PPA will be 25 year from effective date of PPA.
