NTPC, India's largest integrated power utility, has announced plans to ramp up its power generation capacity in the financial year 2024-25. The company aims to add 5 GW to its portfolio.

This expansion plan includes a focus on renewable energy (RE) sources, with NTPC aiming to add 3 GW of RE capacity alongside an additional 2 GW to its thermal energy capacity.

In the previous fiscal year, FY24, NTPC demonstrated its capability by successfully adding 3,924 MW of new capacity, bringing its cumulative installed capacity to nearly 76 GW. Presently, the group has an operational RE capacity of 3.5 GW, with a pipeline exceeding 20 GW, highlighting its commitment to future growth in clean energy.

Looking ahead, NTPC has set targets for the coming years, aiming to expand its non-fossil-based capacity to 45-50 percent of its overall portfolio by 2032. This will include a 60 GW of RE capacity, resulting in a total portfolio of 130 GW.

As a cornerstone of India's power sector, NTPC plays a crucial role in meeting the nation's energy needs, contributing a quarter of the country's power requirement.
