The National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) has launched its Southern Regional Committee Chapter in Chennai, a move aimed at strengthening renewable energy advocacy and accelerating the transition to clean energy across South India.

As per the firm's statement, the committee, established under NSEFI's newly formed subsidiary, NSEFI Sustainable Energy Federation of Industry, will focus on advancing electricity and industrial decarbonisation initiatives in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The launch event, held in Chennai, was attended by senior dignitaries from Central and State Governments, along with key stakeholders from the renewable energy sector.

NSEFI, a New Delhi-based energy policy advocacy body founded in 2013, has played a significant role in supporting India's clean energy growth. The federation was established through the efforts of industry leaders including late Pranav R. Mehta, R. Chellappan, Vice Chairman and Whole-Time Director of Swelect Energy Systems Ltd., and Sunil Jain, CEO of Hero Future Energies.

The newly launched Southern Regional Committee will provide policy advocacy, industry feedback and technical knowledge support to state governments, with a focus on solar, wind, energy storage, green hydrogen and other emerging clean energy technologies. The initiative aims to facilitate coordinated policy development and address regulatory challenges facing the renewable energy industry across the region.

Speaking at the launch, R. Chellappan, Chairman of the Southern Regional Committee, said that the initiative represents an important milestone for South India's renewable energy sector. He emphasized that unified policy representation by NSEFI and state associations would help accelerate renewable energy deployment, support India's net-zero ambitions, strengthen compliance with carbon regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and promote environmental, social and governance (ESG) objectives.

The event brought together renewable energy developers, EPC firms, manufacturers, investors, policymakers and industry experts to discuss opportunities for regional collaboration and strategies to accelerate South India's clean energy transition.
