NLC India Signs Green Loan Agreement with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation
NLC India has secured the Green Loan under the ECB framework, raising USD 100 million from SMBC.

NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, has secured its first Green Loan under the External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) framework, raising JPY 15.464 billion (USD 100 million) from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC).
According to the company, the low-cost green financing will exclusively support capital expenditure for renewable energy projects undertaken through its subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL). The company stated that the funding will help optimise project margins and accelerate its clean energy expansion.
NLCIL added that the milestone aligns with its Corporate Plan 2030, which targets 10 GW of renewable energy capacity and aims to raise the green share of its power portfolio to 50 percent, contributing to India’s Net-Zero 2070 vision.
The loan agreement was signed by Dhanapal D, Chief General Manager (Finance), NLCIL, and Manoj Kaushik, Branch Head, SMBC–GIFT City, in the presence of Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Director (Finance) and CFO, NLCIL.
The company noted that this collaboration marks a significant step forward in expanding its green footprint and advancing India’s sustainable energy transition.
