NLC India Renewables Wins SJVN’s 265 MW/530 MWh BESS Auction
NLC India Renewables has won SJVN’s auction to develop 265 MW/530 MWh standalone BESS Projects in Haryana at a tariff of INR 2.35 lakh/MW/month.

The approximate value of the tender is INR 636 crore and consists of two projects with capacities of 250 MW/500 MWh and 15 MW/30 MWh. The projects will be eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) support of up to INR 18 lakh/MWh.
The projects must be located in the vicinity of the 220 kV substation of Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGCL) at the premises of 710 MW Panipat Thermal Power Station, Panipat (PTPS) in Haryana.
The tender for this was floated in July 2026.
SJVN shall enter into a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with NIRL for the purchase of Battery Energy Storage Power for a period of 12 years.
As per the tender specifications, the BESSD shall be required to set up a BESS, with the primary objective of making the energy storage facility available to the buying entities for charging/discharging of the BESS, on an 'on-demand' basis.
Setting up of the BESS and interconnection of the BESS with the STU network, including the construction of the bay, will be under the scope of the BESSD.
Land identification and allocation for the Project land will be under the scope of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVNL). Land will be provided on a lease/Right-to Use basis to the BESSD through a suitable agreement with UHBVNL/HPGCL, and the same shall be facilitated by SJVN. The annual lease rent for the BESS project area shall be INR 1/acre/annum.
The BESS must be charged by drawing power from UHBVNL and inject power into the UHBVNL network.
The BESSD shall make the BESS available for two operational cycles per day, i.e. two complete charge-discharge cycles per day.
The BESSD must guarantee a minimum system availability of 95 percent on a monthly basis.
