NLC India Renewables Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of NLC India Ltd., has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Ltd. (TNGECL) for the development of three standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with an aggregate capacity of 250 MW/500 MWh. The project has been awarded through a competitive bidding process.
This is the first large-scale BESS project to be undertaken by NLCIL Group and marks a major milestone, stated the company in a regulatory filing.
It further added that the BESS projects will have two complete cycles of charging/discharging for on-demand usage. “The projects shall be implemented under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support under the State component,” it said.
The BESS projects are to be located at 400/230/110 kV Ottapidaram SS, 400/230/110 kV Anuppankulam SS and 400/230/110 kV Kayathar SS in Tamilnadu.
As NLC India accelerates its green energy transition, the company is making strategic investments in solar, wind, hybrid power projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and green hydrogen initiatives. The company has set a target of achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
