NHPC Signs PPA with Chhattisgarh Discom to Supply Power from 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Project

NHPC has signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement with Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company for the supply of electricity from its 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.

NHPC has announced the signing of a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDCL) for the procurement of power from its 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
 
The agreement was signed in Raipur and provides for the supply of power to CSPDCL for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project. The long-term arrangement is aimed at ensuring a reliable supply of clean and sustainable hydropower to the state while supporting India's renewable energy transition.
 
Commenting on the development, Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, said, “The signing of this long-term PPA marks another important step in NHPC's commitment to advancing India's clean energy transition through dependable and sustainable hydropower. This partnership will help strengthen long-term energy security while contributing to the country's renewable energy objectives.”
 
The agreement was signed by Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and V.K. Sai, Executive Director (Regulatory Affairs & Power Management), CSPDCL, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
 
Earlier this month, NHPC also signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement with Tripura State Electricity Corporation for the supply of power from its 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
 
NHPC also signed two 40-year Power Purchase Agreements with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam for the supply of hydropower from its 1,856 MW Sawalkot project in Jammu and Kashmir and the 1,720 MW Kamala project in Arunachal Pradesh.
 
The PSU entity also signed a PPA with New Delhi Municipal Council (NMDC) for the supply of power from NHPC's 800 MW Parbati-II Power Station, Himachal Pradesh. The agreement provides for the supply of power for a period of 40 years from COD of the project.
 
Last month, NHPC signed a PPA with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) for the purchase of power from NHPC's 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II Hydroelectric Project located in Kishtwar district of J&K.
 
In June 2026, NHPC and ONGC Green signed an MoU to explore opportunities for cooperation in the development of Pumped Hydro Storage Projects (PSPs) and other Renewable Energy Projects across the country.
