NHPC Signs 40-Year PPAs with GUVNL for 3,576 MW Hydropower Projects

NHPC has signed two 40-year Power Purchase Agreements with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam for the supply of hydropower from its 1,856 MW Sawalkot project in Jammu and Kashmir and the 1,720 MW Kamala project in Arunachal Pradesh.

NHPC has announced that it has signed two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL)for supplying power from NHPC's 1,856 MW Sawalkot Hydro Electric Project in Jammu and Kashmir and the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
 
The agreements provide for the supply of power to GUVNL for a period of 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the respective projects.
 
Commenting on the development, Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, said, “The signing of these long-term Power Purchase Agreements marks another significant step in NHPC's commitment to strengthening India's clean energy transition through reliable and sustainable hydropower. These partnerships contribute towards ensuring long-term energy security while supporting the nation's renewable energy goals.”
 
The PPAs were signed by the General Manager (Commercial), NHPC and the General Manager (Commercial), GUVNL in the presence of senior officers from both organisations.
 
Earlier this week, a PPA was signed between NHPC and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for the purchase of power from NHPC's 800 MW Parbati-II Power Station, Himachal Pradesh. The agreement provides for the supply of power for a period of 40 years from the COD of the project. 
 
Last month, NHPC signed a PPA with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation (UPPCL) for the purchase of power from NHPC's 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II Hydroelectric Project located in Kishtwar district of J&K.
 
In June 2026, NHPC and ONGC Green signed an MoU to explore opportunities for cooperation in the development of Pumped Hydro Storage Projects (PSPs) and other Renewable Energy Projects across the country.
