NHPC Commissions 53.57 MW Part Capacity at 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project in Bikaner

NHPC has commenced commercial operations of an additional 53.57 MW at its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, raising the project's operational capacity to 214.28 MW.

NHPC has announced that the company has operationalised a part capacity of 53.57 MW of its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. With this, the cumulative commercial operation capacity of the project has reached to 214.28 MW.
 
“After successful completion of the trial run on June 29, 2025, NHPC declares Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the 4th phase of part capacity of 53.57 MW w.e.f. June 30, 2025, of the 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project, Bikaner,” the company stated in a regulatory filing.

NHPC aims to achieve a renewable energy capacity of 16,700 MW by 2030 and plans to increase its total installed capacity to 23 GW by 2032 and over 50 GW by 2047. As part of this target, the company has increased its activity in projects ranging from solar, PSP and other renewable energy projects besides its core hydroelectric business.

In May 2025, NHPC signed an MoU with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL) to jointly develop pumped storage and other renewable energy projects in Rajasthan, starting with two 1,000 MW PSPs.

In April 2025, NHPC announced its plan to develop a 1200 MW solar park in Uttar Pradesh's Jalaun district at an estimated cost of INR 796.96 crore through its JV subsidiary Bundelkhand Saur Urja Ltd.

In January 2025, NHPC and Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation formed a 50:50 joint venture company APGENCO NHPC Green Energy, for the implementation of pumped storage hydropower projects and renewable energy (solar/floating solar/wind) projects in Andhra Pradesh.

Initially, five projects, namely Yaganti PSP (1,000 MW), Rajupalem PSP (800 MW), Gadikota PSP (1,200 MW), Aravetipalli PSP (1,320 MW) and Deenepalli PSP (750 MW), are considered for joint implementation.

During the Bihar Business Connect in December 2024, NHPC announced its plan to invest INR 5,500 crore in Bihar's renewable energy projects, including solar and storage solutions, while seeking State government support for land and approvals.

In September 2024, NHPC signed an MoU with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra, to establish solar-pumped storage projects with a total capacity of 7,350 MW.

In FY25, the company has earned revenue from operation of INR 8,994 crore as against INR 8,397 crore in the corresponding previous year, which is about 7 percent higher.
