NHPC and APGENCO Sign Agreement to Establish Hydel and RE Projects in Andhra Pradesh

These projects will be set up at Kamalapadu (950 MW) and Yaganti (1,000 MW).

NHPC has signed an initial agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation to establish pumped storage hydropower and other RE projects in Andhra Pradesh.

In the first phase, the MoU envisions the construction of two pumped hydro storage projects having an overall capacity of 1,950 MW.

These projects will be set up at Kamalapadu (950 MW) and Yaganti (1,000 MW).

Once commissioned, these projects are anticipated to produce significant employment opportunities and boost the local economy.

The MoU was inked at Tadepalli in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur in the presence of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The agreement was inked by NHPC Director (Finance) R P Goyal and APGENCO Managing Director K V N Chakradhar Babu.

The MoU looking to achieve the national target of producing clean and green energy of 500 GW from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and of achieving the net-zero goal by 2070.

The pumped storage system uses additional grid power available from thermal power stations or other sources to pump up water from the lower to the upper reservoir and generates electricity during peak demand.
