NGEL Signs MoU with Assago Industries to Supply Green Ammonia, RE Power for Green Urea Plant

NTPC Green Energy has signed an MoU with Assago Industries to supply green ammonia, carbon dioxide, and renewable power for a proposed 1,000 TPD green urea plant at its Pudimadaka green hydrogen hub in Andhra Pradesh.

NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC, has announced signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Assago Industries for the supply of green ammonia, carbon dioxide, renewable energy power and other related utilities for the production of 1,000 TPD of green urea.

The MoU was signed on February 2, 2026, at NTPC Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of senior officials from NGEL, NTPC and Assago.

The urea plant is being explored for setup at the NGEL Green Hydrogen Hub in Pudimadaka, near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Last month, NTPC Green Energy signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh government at the World Economic Forum in Davos to develop renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the state.

In July 2025, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) granted enhanced delegation of power to NTPC from the extant guidelines of delegation of power to Maharatna CPSEs for making an investment in its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy.

Subsequently, NGEL will be investing in NTPC REL and its other JVs/ subsidiaries beyond the earlier approved prescribed limit of INR 7,500 crore up to an amount of INR 20,000 crore for renewable energy (RE) capacity addition to achieve 60 GW renewable energy capacity by 2032.
