NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has finalized a Land Lease Agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to establish the nation's largest green hydrogen production facility.
Spanning 1,200 acres near Pudimadaka village in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, the project aims to develop an 'Integrated Green Hydrogen Hub' envisioned to advance cutting-edge technologies in the renewable energy domain. This hub will encompass crucial components such as electrolyzer and fuel cell manufacturing units, alongside ancillary industries, startup incubation centers, and testing facilities.
Central to the project is the construction of India's largest green hydrogen production facility, with a capacity of 1,200 tons per day, poised to facilitate the conversion of green hydrogen into derivatives like green ammonia and green methanol, primarily targeted at diverse export markets.
The formal exchange of the Land Lease Deed took place at the Government of Andhra Pradesh's Secretariat in Amravati, witnessed by officials including Sivakumar V.V., Chief General Manager of NGEL, and Pravin Kumar, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of APIIC, in the presence of Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Executive Director of NTP, R. Sarangapani, and other senior dignitaries.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission, spearheaded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2023 with an outlay of INR 19,744 crores, aims to position India as a global hub for the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.
NTPC, India's largest power utility with a total installed capacity of 74 GW, including joint ventures and subsidiaries, is vigorously expanding its renewable energy portfolio. Through its fully owned subsidiary, NGEL, NTPC is venturing into renewable energy parks and projects, with a specific focus on green hydrogen, energy storage technologies, and round-the-clock renewable energy solutions.
With ambitions to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032, NTPC is resolute in its commitment to bolstering Andhra Pradesh's and India's decarbonization goals.
