Renewable energy giant Neoen has emerged victorious in the latest call for tenders held by the French government’s Energy Regulation Commission (CRE), securing a substantial 119 MWp of solar projects.
In this tender session, Neoen's seven projects, ranging from 5 to 30 MWp, propelled the company to the second position in terms of awarded capacity. Neoen maintains its top spot as the leading awardee for the entire PPE2 call of tenders initiated two years ago, boasting a total of 479 MWp.
The development of these projects saw Neoen collaborating closely with local authorities and stakeholders in the Grand Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and Occitanie regions of France. This diverse portfolio underscores Neoen's capability to execute ground-mounted projects across the nation.
Construction of the solar plants will be entrusted to French EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) experts, with a phased timeline spanning from 2024 to 2028. The initiative is anticipated to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities while contributing to local economies.
Among the winning projects, Lapenne (21 MWp) stands out as one of the inaugural solar agrivoltaic plants in the Ariège department. By integrating sheep farming with renewable electricity production, the project aims to provide diversified revenue streams for local farmers. French farming institute IDELE, a longstanding partner of Neoen, will oversee the project's operations annually.
French Development Director Guillaume Decaen expressed gratitude to the team and stakeholders for their confidence and support. "We are proud to be the top awardee in the government calls for tenders launched in December 2021 and a major contributor to the decarbonisation of our country’s electricity,” he said.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Neoen, Xavier Barbaro, lauded the awards as a testament to the company's ability to develop competitive projects for clients while creating value for shareholders and said, "With a total of 119 MWp in this session, Neoen strengthens its position as number one independent producer of renewable energy in France, a key country for us." He emphasized the quality of Neoen's solar, wind, and storage projects, signaling a commitment to accelerating growth both domestically and globally.
