Neoen Enters Japan with 100 MW/400 MWh Ako Battery Project
Neoen has marked its entry into Japan’s energy storage market with the 100 MW/400 MWh Ako Battery project, a 4-hour duration system aimed at strengthening grid stability and resilience. The project is scheduled to be operational in 2028.

Ako is a 4-hour long duration battery that will actively support the Japanese grid, enhancing stability and resilience. The notice to proceed is expected in the coming months, and the battery is scheduled to be operational in 2028, the company stated.

Neoen is active in 15 countries across 3 regions – Europe, the Americas and Australia Pacific, the latter including Australia, Japan and New Zealand. The company has a portfolio of big batteries totalling 2.3 GW/7.2 GWh in operation or under construction in Australia. On a global scale, Neoen’s storage capacity spans 7 countries, including Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and El Salvador, with 2.8 GW/8.1 GWh of batteries in operation or under construction.
