Navitas Planet Secures USD 20 Million EPC Contract for 54 MW Solar Project in Zambia

Navitas Solar has announced that its Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) arm, Navitas Planet, has secured a USD 20 million contract to develop a 54 MW utility-scale solar power project in Serenje Province, Zambia. The project marks a milestone in Navitas Solar's global expansion strategy and strengthens its presence in Africa's fast-growing renewable energy sector.

Under the EPC contract, Navitas Planet will undertake end-to-end project execution, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the solar power plant. The project will also feature Navitas Solar's high-efficiency bifacial TOPCon modules, along with other key components sourced from leading global manufacturers. The project is expected to be commissioned with an execution timeline of approximately seven to eight months.

Zambia is accelerating investments in renewable energy to strengthen energy security and reduce its dependence on hydropower, which currently accounts for over 80 percent of the country's electricity generation and remains vulnerable to climate-induced droughts. The Serenje Province project aligns with Zambia's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and the Presidential 1,000 MW Solar Initiative, supporting the country's efforts to diversify its power generation mix and improve grid resilience.

Beyond expanding renewable energy capacity, the project is expected to deliver meaningful environmental and economic benefits. Once operational, the solar plant is expected to generate clean electricity while reducing approximately 42,570 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. It will create local employment opportunities during construction and associated project activities, contributing to local economic development and skills creation.

The project further supports Zambia's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, which target a 47 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. As Navitas Planet's first utility-scale EPC project in Africa, the development establishes a strong foundation for the company's long-term growth strategy across the continent, where demand for reliable, affordable and sustainable energy infrastructure continues to grow.
