Muscat Municipality has expanded electric vehicle charging infrastructure across several locations in the capital to support environmentally friendly transport and encourage sustainable mobility.
The municipality announced that new EV charging stations have been installed at Al Khuwair Flag Square, Bausher Park and the Green Walkway Seeb.
The initiative forms part of broader programmes aimed at strengthening infrastructure for electric vehicles and encouraging residents to adopt cleaner and more energy-efficient transport options.
Officials said the expansion of the EV charging network will make electric vehicles more practical for everyday use while helping reduce carbon emissions and improve environmental quality in the city.
According to the municipality, the project also aligns with its strategy to gradually extend EV charging facilities to additional public spaces and key locations across the governorate, supporting the transition towards sustainable urban mobility.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has been advancing the country’s green mobility agenda. By the end of 2024, the ministry had launched more than 25 projects and pilot programmes, including the introduction of biofuels in public transport, installation of more than 150 EV charging points nationwide and the registration of over 1,500 electric vehicles.
Further initiatives under consideration include replacing government vehicle fleets with EVs and developing dedicated green lanes for hydrogen-powered trucks as part of Oman’s broader clean transportation strategy.
