Morocco has added 192 MW of renewable energy capacity in 2025, taking its total installed renewable capacity to 4,851 MW from 4,659 MW a year earlier, according to new figures from International Renewable Energy Agency.
The additions came entirely from solar and wind projects, making Morocco the second-largest renewable energy market in North Africa in 2025, based on an analysis of International Renewable Energy Agency’s Renewable Capacity Statistics 2026 report.
Installed solar capacity rose to 1,086 MW during the year. Most of the increase came from solar photovoltaic projects, which climbed by 135 MW to 546 MW. Capacity from concentrated solar power remained unchanged at 540 MW.
Onshore wind capacity also expanded, increasing by 57 MW to reach 2,452 MW by the end of 2025. Basically, Morocco’s solar panels and wind turbines did all the heavy lifting this year, hydro decided to stay in its “no new updates” era.
Hydropower capacity held steady at 1,306 MW, while bioenergy remained unchanged at 7 MW. Morocco also retained 814 MW of pumped hydro storage capacity, unchanged from 2024, remaining the only market in North Africa with pumped storage technology.
Renewable energy’s share of Morocco’s total installed power capacity increased to 39.6 percent n 2025 from 38.7 percent in 2024, the highest level in North Africa.
