Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park Expands Capacity, Raises 2030 Clean Energy Target

Dubai’s flagship solar park reached 3,860 MW in 2025, launched new storage-linked phases, and revised its 2030 capacity target to over 7,260 MW, strengthening clean energy leadership.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park recorded an increase in installed capacity in 2025, as Dubai continued to scale up renewable energy generation under its long-term clean energy and carbon neutrality strategies.

During the year, the solar park’s total installed capacity rose to 3,860 MW, following the addition of 800 MW using a combination of photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. The capacity now represents around 21.5 percent of the total power generation capacity of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

The additional capacity was commissioned under the sixth phase of the project. Based on current development plans, the solar park’s total capacity is now projected to exceed 7,260 MW by 2030, compared with the earlier target of 5,000 MW. According to approved plans, clean energy sources are expected to account for around 34 percent of Dubai’s total power generation capacity over the next five years.

In 2025, DEWA issued a tender for the seventh phase of the solar park. The phase is expected to add approximately 2,000 MW of solar capacity, along with energy storage systems totalling 1,400 MWh, enabling the storage of up to 8,400 MWh of clean energy.

During the year, the project also achieved a Guinness World Record for the highest capacity produced by a concentrated solar power plant operated by a single entity. The CSP capacity of the fourth phase reached 700 MW.

DEWA estimates that once the revised 2030 target is achieved, the solar park could reduce carbon emissions by more than 8.5 million tonnes annually.

The project continued to draw interest from domestic and international developers in 2025, with multiple companies indicating preliminary interest in participating in upcoming phases under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park remains a key component of Dubai’s renewable energy infrastructure, with further capacity additions planned in the coming years.
