Mobis India Limited, a key affiliate of Hyundai Motor India Ltd, has inaugurated its EV Battery System Assembly (BSA) plant in Sriperumbudur. Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, graced the inauguration ceremony.
The state-of-the-art, spacious, 8.15-acre plant is strategically located adjacent to Hyundai Motor's existing car manufacturing plant, fostering synergy within the electric vehicle production ecosystem.
The newly commissioned facility will have an initial installed capacity to assemble 36,000 EV battery units annually to meet the growing demand for EVs in India. The design of the factory allows for a swift scalability of production, with the potential to ramp up to an impressive 75,000 units in the near term.
This advanced Mobis India assembly unit will produce high-performance battery systems specifically designed for EVs manufactured in India.
The Hyundai CRETA Electric will be the first EV model to be equipped with packs assembled at this facility. This move underscores Mobis India's commitment to supporting Hyundai's strong emphasis on the localization of EV production, signifying a significant stride forward in India's journey towards widespread electric mobility.
