The Indian government has introduced a new scheme aimed at bolstering the nation's transition to green hydrogen, allocating a substantial budget of INR 35 crore spanning from FY 2023-24 to FY 2029-30.
The scheme outline by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), aligns with the National Green Hydrogen Mission and focuses on skilling, up-skilling, and re-skilling individuals to meet the evolving demands of the green hydrogen sector.
Key objectives of the scheme include conducting comprehensive skill gap analyses, establishing a registry of requisite skills, and developing tailored curriculum elements for educational institutions catering to various segments of the green hydrogen value chain.
Guided by principles outlined in the official document, such as prioritizing specialized knowledge in hydrogen technologies and ensuring a just transition for the workforce, the scheme aims to integrate hydrogen technologies into course curricula across educational levels and facilitate the re-skilling of workers.
Activities under the scheme include short-term training, up-skilling with recognition of prior learning, establishment of Centers of Excellence, and curriculum-based long-duration training.
