The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has officially launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) process inviting individuals, firms, and companies to become registered vendors under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG:MBY).
This ambitious initiative aims to install rooftop solar systems (RTS) in one crore households across India by March 2027, significantly contributing to the country’s renewable energy goals.
The PM Surya Ghar scheme is part of India's broader efforts to increase solar energy utilisation and promote sustainability. The actual installations will be conducted by vendors registered on a National Portal, with the MNRE having already established the procedures for vendor registration at state, multi-state, and national levels. The scheme targets the installation of 1 crore residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027 and has an estimated market size of INR 1,45,000 crore based on the benchmark cost for installing these systems. Households participating in the scheme will also receive Central Financial Assistance (CFA) of up to INR 78,000.
This initiative is expected to create a robust market opportunity, currently supported by over 8,000 vendors, with a goal to expand this network to 25,000 vendors. The program highlights the untapped market potential in various regions, especially in high-growth states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, as well as in several states within the Northeastern Region and Union Territories.
The REC's Vendor Management Division will play a crucial role in supporting registered vendors through regular interactions, dedicated email assistance, and capacity-building programs. This comprehensive support system is designed to help vendors navigate the registration process and thrive in the marketplace. As registered vendors, participants will be integral to the entire lifecycle of rooftop solar installations, which includes system design, component supply, installation, commissioning, and a comprehensive maintenance contract for five years. The government is committed to facilitating an efficient implementation process through the National Portal, ensuring that vendors have clear guidelines and ongoing support throughout their journey.
The PM Surya Ghar initiative represents a significant opportunity for stakeholders to contribute to a sustainable future while capitalizing on the growing demand for renewable energy solutions in India.
