MNRE Extends PM-KUSUM Financial Closure Deadline to Nov 30

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the last date for achieving financial closure for projects under Component A and Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme to November 30, 2026.

The Ministry said that the decision was taken based on requests from various stakeholders regarding difficulties being faced by project developers in achieving financial closure of projects under Component-A and C of PM-KUSUM, particularly on account of delays in loan appraisal/sanction and other associated project development issues.

MNRE further reiterated that the timeline for completion of PM-KUSUM projects stands unchanged at March 31, 2027 in cases where the PPA has been signed/NTP has been issued on or before December 31, 2025. This extension was announced by the Ministry in March 2026 as it is in the process of finalising the Scheme details for PM KUSUM 2.0.

“No further extension of the timeline for completion of projects under PM-KUSUM shall be granted beyond March 31, 2027,” the Ministry said.

MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi earlier stated that the government will launch the PM-KUSUM 2.0 soon with a dedicated 10 GW Agri-PV component, enabling farmers to generate solar electricity alongside crops and boosting rural income through agrivoltaic systems.

In August 2026, the National Institute of Solar Energy issued a draft for solar pump controller specifications, which proposed higher efficiency benchmarks, wider PV operating ranges, support for battery storage and grid interaction, and multifunctional use of solar pump controllers to enhance the utilisation and reliability of PM-KUSUM solar assets. It’s highly like that PM-KUSUM 2.0 will have dedicated component on BESS.
