MKC Infrastructure has commenced work on the 300 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at the NTECL Vallur Thermal Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, with a ground-breaking ceremony held at the project site.

The ceremony was attended by Sanjay Kumar Sinha, CEO of NTECL and Executive Director of NTPC, along with Parikshit Bambhania, Director of MKC Infrastructure, who will oversee project execution on behalf of the company.

The battery energy storage system is expected to enhance grid stability and facilitate greater integration of renewable energy into Tamil Nadu's electricity network by providing flexible energy storage and balancing services.

MKC Infrastructure said that the project represents another milestone in its clean energy portfolio and underscores its commitment to developing resilient energy infrastructure that supports India's energy transition and grid modernisation.

Last month, MKC Green Energy, a subsidiary of MKC Infrastructure, received a Letter of Award (LOA) from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation for the development of a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS project in Uttar Pradesh. The company secured the capacity at a tariff of INR 6.46/kWh in UPPCL's auction in May 2026 for setting up 375 MW/1,500 MWh standalone BESS projects in Uttar Pradesh with charging under the developer's scope.
