Mitsubishi Electric Cup: Country’s top technical institutes to battle it out in finals

The theme for the maiden edition of the contest is Eco Imagination through Smart Manufacturing

Mitsubishi Electric has announced will be holding the final round of its first ever national-level automation competition for students on February 12th-13th, 2016 at the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), Pune. The Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2016 had been launched in the month of July last year, after which the company had invited proposals from teams from technical institutions across the country to showcase their skills in designing and producing a complete set of devices / models, using Mitsubishi Electric Factory Automation products.

After an overwhelming response from engineering colleges from various cities including New Delhi, Haryana, Pune, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bangalore, Chennai and many more, a total of 24 teams from these have been shortlisted by the Organizing Committee of Mitsubishi Electric Cup to compete in the final round.

The theme for the maiden edition of the contest- in tandem with the environment statement of the Mitsubishi Electric- has been kept as Eco Imagination through Smart Manufacturing. FAID has always been committed to the motto of ‘Eco Changes for a greener tomorrow. Under the theme, students are required to integrate Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation products including PLC, servo, inverter and human-machine interface etc, build up and achieve an analogous system of intelligent manufacturing and energy saving management application, based on e&eco-f@ctory concept while taking e-f@ctory system as the trunk.

The competition aims at providing on-field training to budding engineers from across the country and improving the ability of college students for engineering application, stimulating their interests in learning engineering technology and building up an innovation capacity in them.

All the participants will be given certificates of participation, while the winning team will receive prize worth of Rs. 1 lakh. The runner up team will be awarded prize worth of Rs. 75,000 while the team grabbing the third spot will be given prize worth of Rs. 50, 000.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Makoto Yokoyama, Director and Division Manager, Factory Automation and Industrial Division, Mitsubishi Electric India said, “The idea behind this contest is to provide real life training to the budding engineers of the industry. Being a prominent leader in Factory Automation in India, it is our prime duty to support students in the technical domain and provide them with opportunities to experience real-life challenges. We have kept the theme of this year's competition as 'Eco Imagination through Smart Manufacturing', to encourage students to come up with ideas of technology which has an environment-saving aspect to it.”
