The central government has officially appointed Mir Mohammed Ali as a Director in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a tenure of five years. Ali is a 2011 batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from Kerala cadre.

On August 7, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) released a formal order directing the Government of Kerala to relieve Ali, enabling him to take over his new position at MNRE without any delay.

Earlier, in an order dated May 7, 2025, Kerala government appointed Ali as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

Ali, originally from Chennai, achieved 59th rank at All-India level in the civil services exam. He holds degrees in both electronics engineering and political science as well. Ali has also served in key administrative roles multiple times. In August 2016, he was appointed as the Collector of Kannur District. He also undertook initiatives to transform Kannur into India's first plastic-free disposable district.

While serving as the Director of Surveys and Land Records, he encouraged college students and executed the creative ‘Map My Home’ initiative utilising Google Maps. Ali also introduced the ‘VR Kannur App’, a platform that enables citizens to assess the effectiveness of government offices and officials, thus improving public accountability.

In his new role at MNRE, Ali is expected to utilise his experience in state electricity infrastructure, industrial development, and sustainable governance and practical expertise to steer MNRE’s renewable energy strategies as India advances its green energy transition.
