The Ministry of Power has extended the deadline for submission of Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) compliance details for the financial year 2024–25 to May 31, 2026, offering additional time to obligated entities to fulfill reporting requirements.
The extension comes in response to representations from industry stakeholders citing difficulties in meeting the earlier deadline. These concerns were channelled through the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, the designated nodal agency responsible for overseeing RCO implementation and compliance.
The revised timeline applies to all obligated entities, including distribution companies, open access consumers, and captive power users, who must submit verified data on their renewable energy consumption under the RCO framework.
RCO mechanism mandates a defined share of electricity consumption from non-fossil fuel sources for large energy users. It is a key policy measure aimed at accelerating renewable energy adoption across industrial and commercial sectors.
This marks another extension in the first year of RCO implementation, reflecting ongoing operational and data verification challenges faced by stakeholders. Despite the extension, compliance targets remain unchanged, and entities are expected to complete reporting and certification processes within the revised deadline.
