Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, V.L. Kantha Rao, inaugurated the Registered Office of Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL). The event, held at Sansad Marg, New Delhi, witnessed the presence of senior officials from both the Ministry and KABIL.

KABIL, a joint venture company formed by NALCO, HCL, and MECL, all under the Ministry of Mines, has been entrusted with a crucial mission. Their task involves identifying, exploring, acquiring, and developing critical and strategic mineral assets overseas, vital for India's industrial growth and self-sufficiency.

During his inaugural address, Secretary Mines emphasized the significance of establishing KABIL's office in Delhi. He highlighted the venture's key role in driving India's growth and self-sufficiency in the domain of critical and strategic minerals. This aligns with the national objectives of 'Make in India' and 'Viksit Bharat,'' as well as India's commitment to achieving the Net Zero Emission Goal.

A key step in KABIL's journey was marked by the signing of an Exploration and Development Agreement with CAMYEN on January 15, 2024. This agreement granted KABIL exclusive exploration rights for five lithium blocks in Argentina. Such initiatives are critical for securing a stable supply of lithium, a key component in battery production for industries, including electric vehicles.

India's collaboration with Australia, a leading producer of lithium and cobalt, further enhances its mineral security efforts. This collaboration, facilitated by Government-to-Government (G2G) and Business-to-Business (B2B) Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), aims to explore five projects for lithium and cobalt. Feasibility studies are underway to assess project viability.
