Mindra Group’s subsidiary, Mindra New Energy Pvt. Ltd., has announced a strategic collaboration with China-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer REPT BATTERO Energy Co. Ltd. for the Indian battery energy storage system (BESS) market.

The exclusive 1 GWh partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at REPT BATTERO’s headquarters in Shanghai by Dhairya Shah, Founder and CEO of Mindra Group, and Lance Zhang, Chief Strategic Officer of REPT BATTERO. The deal is aimed at strengthening India’s battery manufacturing ecosystem and meeting the growing demand for electric mobility and energy storage solutions.

Under the agreement, Mindra will distribute 150 MWh of REPT BATTERO battery pack solutions in India, while REPT BATTERO will supply 850 MWh of 314 Ah battery cells to support electric vehicle and energy storage applications. Additionally, the partnership includes setting up a 1 GWh battery cell assembly line in India, featuring automated and semi-automated production technologies, as part of a 1.5-year roadmap to establish full-scale domestic assembly capabilities. This aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, aiming to make India self-reliant in critical battery manufacturing infrastructure.

The collaboration comes amid a surge in India’s battery demand. Domestic manufacturing capacity is projected to exceed 100 GWh by 2026, while battery cell demand could reach 115 GWh by 2030, driven by the adoption of electric vehicles and the expansion of grid-scale energy storage.

REPT BATTERO, backed by Tsingshan Group, a Fortune Global 500 company, currently has a global production capacity of 90 GWh. It ranks fifth globally in energy storage cell shipments and second in household energy storage battery shipments.

Commenting on the partnership, the Mindra team said that it would enable deployment of advanced battery solutions compatible with PCS and EMS technologies developed by Mindra, contributing to a more resilient and self-reliant battery ecosystem in India.
