Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar have announced a strategic collaboration to establish a 5 GWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility in Karjan, Gujarat. The facility is expected to commence operations in Q1 FY28.
The collaboration brings together Mecpower Solutions’ strengths in renewable energy project development, engineering, and execution and Navitas Solar’s integrated manufacturing expertise. Building on a longstanding business relationship across solar and renewable energy projects, the partnership marks a significant step towards creating a robust energy storage ecosystem that supports India’s clean energy transition, the companies said in a joint statement.
The proposed facility is envisioned as a platform that combines manufacturing, project deployment, and system integration capabilities. By leveraging their respective strengths, Mecpower Solutions and Navitas Solar aim to develop scalable battery storage solutions tailored to utility-scale, commercial, and industrial renewable energy applications.
Commenting on the development, Setul Shah, Director, Mecpower Solutions, said, “As India continues to scale its renewable energy capacity, Battery Energy Storage Systems will be critical in addressing the intermittency of solar and wind power, improving grid flexibility, and enabling more predictable energy delivery. Our proposed 5 GWh manufacturing facility in Karjan represents a strategic step towards strengthening our capabilities across the energy storage value chain. By integrating battery storage manufacturing with our EPC and IPP businesses, we aim to develop scalable solutions that address the evolving needs of utility-scale renewable energy projects and support India's transition towards a more flexible and reliable power ecosystem.”
Ankit Singhania, Director, Navitas Solar said, “As India accelerates its transition towards renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems are emerging as a critical component of the power sector, enabling better management of renewable intermittency, greater grid flexibility, and more efficient energy utilisation. Building domestic manufacturing capabilities in this segment will be an important step towards strengthening India’s clean-energy supply chain and supporting the evolving requirements of utility-scale storage projects. Through this collaboration, we aim to extend our manufacturing capabilities into a strategically important segment of the energy transition and contribute to the development of scalable storage solutions for India’s power sector.”
