A Masdar-led consortium has awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the Ibri III Independent Power Project (IPP), Oman’s first solar-plus-storage facility, to China Power Engineering Consulting Group International Engineering Co. (CPECC), a subsidiary of Energy China.
Valued at 115 million Omani riyals (USD 299 million), the Ibri III IPP will integrate a 500 MW solar photovoltaic plant with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), marking a milestone in the country’s clean energy development.
Once commissioned, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power roughly 33,000 homes and offset over 500,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
The project advanced significantly in September 2025 when Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) signed the power purchase agreement with the Masdar-led consortium, which also includes Al Khadra Partners, Korea Midland Power Co. Ltd. (KOMIPO), and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE).
