The Maharashtra government has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth INR 6.5 lakh crore with leading energy companies to develop 25,400 MW of nuclear-linked clean energy capacity in the state.

The agreements mark a major step in expanding the state’s clean energy infrastructure and boosting long-term power generation capabilities.

Among the key investments, Adani Power Ltd. will invest INR 1.5 lakh crore to develop 6,000 MW of capacity, expected to generate around 12,000 jobs. Reliance Industries Ltd. has committed INR 2 lakh crore for 7,200 MW of power generation, with potential to create over one lakh jobs.

NTPC Ltd. will invest INR 1 lakh crore for 7,200 MW capacity, with an estimated 5,000 jobs, while Lalitpur Power Generation Company Ltd. (Bajaj Group) will also contribute INR 2 lakh crore under the programme.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the investments in clean energy would strengthen India’s journey towards becoming an energy-rich nation.

“The investment coming to the State in the clean energy generation sector will strengthen the country to become an energy-rich nation,” he said.

He added that the initiative would accelerate energy generation in Maharashtra and create significant employment opportunities.

The signing event was attended by senior officials including State Energy Minister Atul Save, Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Abha Shukla, and representatives from participating companies.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the companies will now begin site surveys to fast-track project implementation, while the state government has assured full support for execution.

The initiative aligns with the Centre’s broader goal of achieving energy security and net-zero carbon emissions.
