The Government of Maharashtra has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chambery Power, a group company of EDF Power Solutions India, for the development of the 2,100 MW Pimpalpada–Savale pumped storage project in Pune District and Raigad District of Maharashtra.

The MoU signing and exchange ceremony, between the Water Resource Department, Government of Maharashtra and Chambery Power, was presided over by CM Devendra Fadnavis, with Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Minister Girish Mahajan, and CEO of EDF Power Solutions India Guirec Servan in attendance.

The proposed pumped storage project is expected to involve a total investment of approximately INR 10,217 crore and generate around 2,500 employment opportunities during its development and operational phases.

With this project, the number of pumped storage projects initiated in Maharashtra has reached 55, with a combined planned capacity of 78,215 MW. These projects are expected to attract an estimated investment of about INR 4.17 lakh crore and create employment opportunities for nearly 1.28 lakh people, strengthening the state’s clean energy and energy storage infrastructure, CM Fadnavis stated.

He further added, “This investment will significantly enhance the state’s power generation capacity, providing a strong impetus to industrial growth. It will also generate substantial employment opportunities, thereby strengthening the local economy and fostering inclusive development.”

He also chaired a review meeting regarding the progress of the pumped storage hydroelectric projects in the state.
