India Energy and Climate Center, University of California, Berkeley, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to bolster the state’s efforts on clean energy and resilience to climate impacts.
The partnership is focused on advancing research and policy development in the energy sector. The collaboration will cover a wide spectrum of topics including least-cost electricity pathways, energy storage, transmission planning, climate resilience and capacity building.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presided over the MoU signing and exchange. He said, “This collaboration opens a new chapter in Maharashtra’s journey towards clean, reliable, and affordable energy. With the support of a globally respected institution like University of California, Berkeley, efforts will be intensified across key areas such as energy storage technologies, grid system innovation, and the design of dynamic electricity markets tailored to our State’s evolving needs.”
The CM further added, “The partnership also includes joint research on climate-resilient solutions and the development of effective energy policies. Skill development and training initiatives will ensure that our youth and professionals are equipped to lead in this fast-changing sector.”
Rooted in shared values of trust, equality, and collective progress, this partnership is designed to create locally relevant solutions while encouraging knowledge exchange and institutional capacity-building. It also lays a flexible foundation for future projects, allowing both sides to deepen their collaboration as new opportunities arise, stated Fadnavis.
It marks a forward-looking step to strengthen Maharashtra’s energy future by supporting institutions, enhancing skills, and working towards cleaner, more reliable solutions for the benefit of all.
