MAHAGENCO REL Signs MoU for 400 MW Koyna Stage-6 Pumped Storage Project in Maharashtra

MAHAGENCO Renewable Energy has inked an MoU with Maharashtra’s Water Resources Department to develop the 400 MW Koyna Stage-6 pumped storage hydropower project in Patan, Satara, at an investment of about INR 2,800 crore.

MAHAGENCO Renewable Energy (MAHAGENCO REL) has announced signing an MoU with the state’s Water Resources Department for the development of the 400 MW Koyna Stage-6 Pumped Storage Hydropower Project in Patan, Satara. The agreement was formalised in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
 
The INR 2,800 crore project is expected to generate around 2,500 jobs and will play a critical role in boosting energy storage capability to support Maharashtra’s growing renewable energy mix. With this addition, MAHAGENCO REL’s total proposed pumped storage capacity in partnership with the state government now stands at 2,510 MW, including previously signed MoUs totalling 2,110 MW.
 
“This project marks a new chapter in advancing renewable, reliable, and flexible power infrastructure, supporting grid stability and accelerating MahaGenco REL’s journey toward a sustainable future. This MoU is not just an agreement — it is a commitment to shaping India’s energy landscape for the next generation,” stated Harshal Bhaskare, CEO, MAHAGENCO Renewable Energy, in a social media post.
 
The collaboration underscores the state’s focus on building robust, flexible renewable energy infrastructure, while reinforcing MAHAGENCO REL’s commitment to driving sustainable power solutions across Maharashtra.
